Updated SUNTEK FA8 8-inch facial recognition terminal for access control, attendance, and visitor management

SUNTEK has updated the FA8 8-inch Android facial recognition terminal with a more refined exterior design, a revised interface configuration, and stronger local AI recognition capability. The updated model is designed for access control, employee attendance, visitor verification, factory entrances, commercial buildings, restricted areas, and turnstile access projects.

A More Streamlined Exterior Design

The updated FA8 replaces the previous straight-edged rear housing with angled surfaces, layered details, and smoother structural transitions.

Compared with the previous box-style enclosure, the new rear housing introduces sloped surfaces and stepped layers that create a more natural transition between the screen, frame, and rear cover. The overall appearance is more balanced, modern, and suitable for visible entrance environments such as office lobbies, reception areas, commercial buildings, and turnstile checkpoints.

Despite the redesigned housing, FA8 continues to support both wall-mounted and pole-mounted installation for flexible access control deployment.

Revised Interfaces for Access Control Integration

The updated FA8 adopts a revised interface configuration for door control, turnstile connection, peripheral expansion, and third-party system integration.

The current configuration includes RJ45 Ethernet, USB 2.0 Host, USB 2.0 OTG, Wiegand output, RS232, GPIO, relay, and DC power interfaces. These connections support integration with access controllers, electronic door locks, turnstiles, attendance systems, visitor management platforms, and third-party security software.

FA8 also supports multiple identity verification methods, including facial recognition, ISO14443 Type A/B and MIFARE contactless card reading, and common 1D and 2D barcode scanning.

RS485 is no longer included in the updated version. Projects that currently depend on RS485 communication should confirm system compatibility before migrating to the new FA8 hardware.

Local AI Recognition with Adjustable FAR and FRR

The updated FA8 combines RGB and infrared cameras with local AI processing to provide configurable facial recognition for different enterprise security requirements.

Powered by Android 14, an RK3576 octa-core processor running at up to 2.2GHz, and a 6TOPS NPU, FA8 provides a stronger hardware platform for local face detection, feature extraction, identity matching, and access control applications. The terminal is equipped with 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, and a dual-lens RGB and IR camera system.

During development, the facial recognition algorithm and camera configuration were evaluated together to balance recognition security and user convenience. Under defined test conditions and an appropriate recognition threshold, the false acceptance rate, or FAR, can be controlled below 0.01%.

The recognition threshold can also be adjusted according to enterprise requirements to balance FAR and the false rejection rate, or FRR. A stricter threshold can reduce the probability of an unauthorized user being incorrectly accepted, but it may increase the rejection of legitimate users. A more flexible threshold can improve access convenience in high-frequency attendance and entrance environments.

The updated FA8 is suitable for enterprise access control, employee attendance, visitor verification, factory entrance management, commercial building security, restricted-area identity verification, and turnstile access projects.
